Retirement Projection Calculator

Many factors determine how much super you need in retirement. To work out how much super you’ll need to enjoy a comfortable retirement you should be asking yourself a few questions, such as:

  • What age will I retire?
  • What level of lifestyle do I wish to undertake?
  • How much income do I realistically need to receive in retirement to sustain this level of lifestyle?
  • How long do I want my funds to last?
  • What do I need to budget for?
  • Will I receive Centrelink support?
  • Will my partner continue to work?
  • Do I want to leave a set amount to my children?

As you can see, how much you need in super to retire will vary significantly from one person to the next.  As a quick guide we use “annual spend multiples” as follows:

If you wanted to retire at 65 you would require a super balance of 13 times your annual retirement spend.  For example a couple retiring at age 65 who plans to spend $50,000pa would need in the region of $650,000 in super at retirement, this should last 20 years.  To preserve the capital balance to pass on to your children, a much higher starting superannuation balance would be required.

We would be more than happy to run to specific calculations to better illustrate your own specific circumstances.  Please complete the details below and we can provide you with some super projections.
